Shebenik-Jabllanicë National Park,

established in 2008 and located 23km from Librazhd, Albania, is a vital ecological area bordering Macedonia. This forested park is rich in pine, white fur, and birch trees, alongside subalpine meadows. The park rises over 2200 meters at Peak Shebenik, offering expansive natural views and opportunities to spot the elusive and endangered Balkan Lynx. The park’s fauna includes around 30 mammal species, such as the rare Balkan Lynx, red fox, gray wolf, and brown bears, making it a crucial corridor for large mammals in Southern Europe. Additionally, the park is home to over 88 bird species, including the golden eagle and the peregrine falcon, as well as 10 amphibian and 15 reptile species, featuring some rare and endemic like the Hermann’s tortoise and the blue-throated keeled lizard. This diverse array of wildlife underlines the park’s significance as both a biodiversity hotspot and a critical conservation area.
