Labova e Kryqit

Today marks the start of our tour of the Labova e Kryqit church.
The Byzantine church is located in the village of Labove e Kryqit, near the small town of Libohova. The church was built in 554, during the reign of Emperor Justinian. Justinian commanded the consecration of a golden cross, crafted from fragments of the Christ's cross, to be placed in the church. The Cross was covered with 600 grams of gold. Because of the importance of the Cross, the village took the name of "Labova de la Croix".
The Labova Cross, one of the world's unique relics, mysteriously disappeared in 1989-90.
The other unique object is the Church of St. Mary itself, a living relic that has survived centuries. Inside, you'll discover impressive Byzantine architecture. According to specialists in Byzantine architecture, the building dates back to between the 9th and 11th centuries AD.
You'll find several architectural elements on the building's exterior, such as the dome, windows and combination of brick and stone, are influenced by contemporary Byzantine churches.
Next, you'll visit Kroi i Vasili, in the center of the village. Here, you'll enjoy the warm sunshine, the cool water of the chrysalis, the colors of the season and its voices.
Labova e Kryqit also offers spectacular panoramic views of the surrounding Albanian mountains, making it an ideal place to enjoy nature and spirituality.
