Prespa National Park,
located in eastern Albania along the borders with Greece and North Macedonia, encompasses the Albanian portion of the two Prespa lakes, including Great Prespa Lake and Small Prespa Lake. These tectonic lakes, situated between 849 and 853 meters above sea level, are the highest in Southeastern Europe and are surrounded by mountains like Mali i Thatë in Albania. Great Prespa is primarily fed by underground tributaries and streams, draining into Lake Ohrid, and ultimately to the Devoll River which flows into the Adriatic Sea. The park not only boasts natural beauty but also a rich cultural landscape, with evidence of human habitation dating back to the Neolithic era. It has been influenced by various civilizations including Illyrians, Ancient Greeks, Romans, and Byzantines, featuring historical sites like Byzantine churches and prehistoric dwellings.
